Andrew has lived in the East Baltimore area most of his childhood and adult life, witnessing both good and bad times. He has been encouraged to see the pride and love for the different community focus; many of the people have worked endless hours to see their communities maintained. Over the years, Andrew has seen the mood swing of the people switch from joy to despair because of the poverty, crime, drugs and the fear that Johns Hopkins is taking over a large part of their neighborhoods. Coupled with this fear is the unknown or the lack of information by Johns Hopkins concerning their research and demolition in East Baltimore. Johns Hopkins has become an enemy, not a friend to many East Baltimoreans. The question that loomed in Andrew’s mind was, how could this fear of that of East Baltimore be eased? With this in mind, Andrew was excited to hear about and come into contact with the focus of the EJP (Environmental Justice Partnership) organization. When he saw that this board was working diligently and hard to keep the people of East Baltimore informed about what was going on environmentally in their areas, he was hopeful that EJP could solve this dilemma. When asked to join this EJP Board, Andrew “leapt for joy in my soul. I have been serving now for several years and I hope to continue with others on this board, to keep the people of East Baltimore informed and not “Disconnected”, as one of our board member so eloquently stated. My prayer is that with God’s help, WE, the EJP Board will continue to impact East Baltimore in a positive and informative way.” He considers it an honor and privilege to serve and work towards the betterment of East Baltimore.
